A necklace by Swiss jeweller De Grisogono worth over $2 million was stolen on Tuesday night during a star-studded, heavily guarded event at Cannes Film Festival. The party celebrating De Grisogono’s 20th anniversary, took place at the five-star Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in the resort town of Cap d’Antibes, had a total of 80 security guards and police keeping watch over the jewellery. Unfortunately, the thief once again outsmarted law enforcement making this the second high profile jewellery theft at the Cannes Festival this year. Last week, thieves stole approximately $1 million worth of Chopard jewellery after ripping off a safe from the wall in a hotel room in Cannes. Founder and creative designer Fawaz Gurosi for the luxury Swiss jeweller released a statement on the incident, “These incidents are rare; it is actually the first time it has happened in our 20-year history.”
